A man who levelled chants of “fire and brimstone pun all lesbians” was yesterday beaten to death with an axe handle in North Ruimveldt and his killer has since turned himself into police custody.
Dead is father of one, Ethiel Jones, aka Timothy, 26, of 1976 Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt.
He was beaten to death by a visiting male friend of two suspected lesbians and left lying outside his grandmother’s 2211 Flying Fish, North Ruimveldt home about 15:35 hrs yesterday.
Residents reported that the killer and Jones became engaged in a heated exchange of derogatory remarks after the chants of fire bun out all coxswains’ were levelled yet again at the women of the house yesterday.
So heated was the exchange that the killer armed himself with an axe handle and advanced in Jones’ direction. At the time, the now deceased Jones was standing a few doors down. Jones was armed with several pieces of stone and a bottle.
Richlene Heyliger, the dead man’s cousin, was inside the house while the argument raged but was prevented by her grandmother from going outside. She recalled that she heard Timothy telling his killer, “Come now leh I buss up yah head here today.”
Eventually against her grandmother’s wishes, she ran outside and found her cousin lying on the road where “he take he last breath.” She also saw his assailant with a bleeding left hand running from the scene. Timothy had only 15 minutes earlier, checked in on his sick grandmother, Joy Frank, before he was dead.
While some residents described the dead man as “a cool guy” others said “he had a temper and was a bit troublesome,” but none expected that he would be killed “like a dog in the street over words and taunting.”
While most were in disbelief at the killing, some amidst pity for the dead man’s relatives said the blows were a long time in coming as it is alleged that he constantly targeted and verbally abused the women at the house.
The father of one, a mason, had earlier left his 1976 Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt home in search of work. A friend recalled, “We went to get a mason work and we ain’t get through so he decided to go check out his sick grandmother and now the man dead. Life ain’t fair at all,” said one of his friends as he stared at the body lying in the street with an apparent broken neck.
Minutes later, a woman identified as one of Jones’ girlfriends arrived at the scene and burst into screams of disbelief.
About an hour later after the police examined the body, it was removed by undertakers from Lyken’s funeral home.
Eyewitnesses said that they saw Jones with a cutlass in his hand while his killer was armed with an axe-handle.
Minutes after police took a witness to search for the alleged killer at the Georgetown Public Hospital, reports came that the man had turned himself in to the East La Penitence Police Station.
