A man who claimed that he was just visiting his friend’s house is now in police custody following the discovery of an illegal firearm and a quantity of ammunition in the property, yesterday.
The discovery stemmed from the alertness of ranks on a police mobile patrol.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that around 10:00 hours the ranks were patrolling in the Tucville Squatting Area when they saw the man acting in a suspicious manner.
A source in the area explained that upon seeing the police the man ‘ducked’ and attempted to jump a fence at the back of the yard.
The police pursued him and took him into the house and during a search, a .38 special revolver with three matching rounds, along with six live rounds of 9mm ammunition, concealed in a black bag were discovered in the toilet area.
The man told police that he was just a visitor to the house, which is reportedly owned by a man who police say, is a known criminal suspect.
The police are seeking the owner of the house.
