Horseracing lovers are assured of an action packed day of exciting races when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club (NSMTC) stages a one-day meeting at the Club’s Bel Air #6 Village, West Coast Berbice, on Sunday July 19.
Entries for the event close on Sunday July 12. Entries can be made through Mr. Ghansham Singh at telephone 649-3636 or Mr. Lionel Moonsammy at telephone # 614-5812 or at their office. The organisers are reminding horse owners that late entries would not be accepted. Full details or queries can be made by contacting Assistant Secretary Compton Sancho on telephone #616-3020.
Several top horses from the country’s leading stables would be competing for lucrative cash prizes. The track is reported to be in excellent condition and promises fans fast and exciting races.
The feature race brings together the C & Lower Class horses battling over a distance of 1600m for a top prize of over $350,000. This event was originally set for 1700m, but Sancho the Club’s Assistant Secretary, informed that they have made a change to the distance after seeking and receiving permission for the GHA.
The 3-year- olds will also contest a similar 1600m distance in the open race for a $300,000 purse. Horses that are West Indian as well as Guyana bred would be competing for honours in this race.
Horses would also match strides in the 2-year-old open over 1000m for a $200,000 purse, while the F and lower class would compete for a first prize of $150,000, over a distance of 1200m.
Other races are the G&H and Lower for a $130,000 prize over 1200m, while the I and Lower class battles over 1200m for a first prize of $110,000. The Unclassified Division 1 & 2 competes over 1200m for a purse of $95,000. The final race of the day will witness horses in the Unclassified Div 3 battling over a distance of 1200m for a $85,000 1st prize. Close to $4M in prize money is up for grabs in this meet.
Jockeys and trainers are reminded that they must possess a valid GHRA licence in order to participate.
