Passengers in a Roraima Airways plane got a scare when the aircraft skidded off the runway near Kurupukari, some four hours drive from Lethem at around 10:00 hours yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that the aircraft suffered slight damage to its nose wheel but none of the six passengers or the pilot was injured.
Managing Director of Roraima Airways Limited, Captain Gerry Gouveia told Kaieteur News that the aircraft was about to take off when it encountered difficulties on the soggy runway, forcing the pilot to abort.
He said that this caused the aircraft to skid off the runway resulting in minor damage.
Gouveia said that engineers were dispatched to the area and the plane is expected to return to the Ogle Aerodome today.
This newspaper was told that the passengers comprised three Guyanese and three foreigners who were on a sightseeing trip.
