Dear Editor,
At this time we are remembering and commemorating the sacrifice of the Enmore Martyrs and I would like to suggest that in the light of the imminent closure of the Le Repentir cemetery, it is now appropriate to exhume the bodies of Rambarran, Pooran, Lallabage, Surajballi and Harry and entomb them suitably at the Enmore Martyrs’ Monument site with all the honours due to them.
It should be clear to all serious students of our history that the martyrdom of the five in 1948 (and Cheddi Jagan’s graveside to devote my entire life to the cause of the struggle of the Guyanese people against bondage and exploitation”) was the turning point that has led to all changes and development we now enjoy in modern day Guyana.
Let us continue to honour the Enmore Martyrs.
