As an overseas medical team wrapped up a two-day medical outreach programme in Parika on Tuesday, more than 400 people accessed the team of medical practitioners.
According to head of the Mission, Dr. Claudette Heyligar-Thomas, the outreach programme was overwhelming but the team did manage to cope.
Dr Heyligar-Thomas said that the people, among whom were several children were not only diagnosed but were also given medication free of cost.
She said that some of the most common complaints included high blood pressure, diabetes, minor heart problems and poor appetite among children.
The team, which includes a Nose, Ear and Throat physician, a Cardiologist, an Audiologist, a Pediatrician, a Neurologist and a General Practitioner, is expected to begin yet another two days programme in Fort Wellington, West Berbice.
Persons living in Fort Wellington and surrounding communities can visit the Fort Wellington Hospital where the team will be conducting the medical outreach programme.
This visit is as a result of a partnership with Food for the Poor Guyana, All God’s Children Foundation and Deskan Institute and Training.
The team arrived in Guyana last week and has since visited the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Maternity Ward where its members presented the mothers with gifts.
On Sunday last, the team conducted a Continuing Medical Education training for some local counterparts. The training session was facilitated by Dr. Ralph Rudy who is a Nose, Ear and Throat specialist.
