Dear Editor,
Mr. Devindra Malhotra’s letter to the editor published in the Kaieteur News on Monday June 29, 2009 exemplifies that of a customer who understands the true function of a water distribution network and the principles that governs its operations. By his actions he has not only demonstrated knowledge of GWI’s water conservation initiative being promoted, but has recognized the importance of conserving water.
GWI operates the network, but the citizenry are the custodians of the system. As such they must be vigilant as it relates to reporting leaks and wanton waste of water. The company applauds the action by Mr. Malhotra and encourages other customers to act in a similar manner.
As it relates to the GWI staff who is no longer in our employ, and who demonstrated customer service skills that are inconsistent with the company’s policy of impeccable customer service delivery is indeed regrettable, and we assure Mr. Malhotra and the general public that we will continue to train our staff in the requisite customer service principles consistent with the company’s mandate.
The ever-flowing open standpipe on Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, has been disconnected thanks to Mr. Malhotra, whose determination has stemmed this wastage. Our operations department had visited the said location on several occasions and had replaced the stop cock, to return within hours and find it dislodged.
We encourage customers to continue to report leaks and other wanton wastage of water to our Customer Services Call Center on telephone 227-8701. This number can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
