GRA extends deadline again

The Guyana Revenue Authority yesterday extended the deadline for the acquisition of motor vehicle licences for a third time. The new deadline is July 15.
Yesterday hundreds flocked the Licence and Revenue Office to purchase their licenses and this sparked much confusion.
Staffers were only allowing six persons at a time to enter the building. This caused a massive line that stretched well into the front yard and onto Smyth Street. Persons who spoke to Kaieteur News complained about waiting for as long as six hours.
One consumer stated that he arrived at the Licence office around 9:00 hours yesterday. The man said that he had taken time off from his job to purchase his license and was now ruing his decision.
He said that persons who are employed with GRA and those that aren’t employed with the company also contribute to the long lines.
The man said, that while he was standing in the line he had seen security officers; staff members and touts take monies to help persons who were purchasing licenses.
“Imagine other people standing in these lines and they collecting money from people who can’t wait and got people waiting long hours.”
He said that he understands that persons should not have waited for the deadline but at the same time, the process must be made easier by the GRA.
The man said that other offices in Georgetown should be allowed to sell the licenses, which in turn would ease the crowds that turn up
