…this time at Anna Regina
In a bold statement to lawyers, their clients and to who turned up today at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court yesterday for court hearings, Magistrate Faith McGusty announced that she was greeted with a similar situation as she did at Charity.
On Monday she refused to work at Charity.
Upon entering the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, she was greeted with the pigeon dung, both in the court building and in her living quarters.
She said that the floor was wet from the leakage in the ceiling. Her chambers were not properly cleaned despite a forced effort to have the court tidy by the usual cleaner’s son who had to be promptly summoned.
The magistrate was notified that the regular cleaner didn’t turn up to fulfill her duties because she had to attend to other matters in Georgetown.
In an interview with this newspaper, Magistrate Mc Gusty said that upon entering the court building, the door to her quarters was locked and despite the hasty effort with which the cleaner’s son was summoned to tidy the court room, her chambers in which she usually conducts certain proceedings was not properly tidied.
The furniture was in disarray. This caused the magistrate to refuse to perform her duties under those insanitary conditions.
Magistrate Mc Gusty has said that this will prevent her from resuming her duties, until the existing problems both at the Anna Regina and Charity courts have been addressed.
A large number of persons had to leave the building.
On Monday, at the Charity court, Magistrate Mc Gusty was unable to perform her duties. She did not enter the building because of the deplorable state of the compound and the building.
She noted that for over a year now the Charity court has been in a deplorable state. It is in dire need of repairs, she said.
According to the Magistrate, because of the insanitary state of the building which is infested with marabunta nests, and which has no electricity, no running water and a courtyard infested with weeds, on two occasions in June she was forced to abandoned court at Charity.
She also noted at Charity, that because of the existing problem of the broken bridge leading to the court building, a huge plank had to be thrown across to assist persons attending court.
