Police in Berbice have detained a bandit shortly after he and his accomplice robbed an Alness, Corentyne housewife of jewellery at her home.
The man was nabbed by police who had received information and a description of the suspects.
According to reports, shortly after midnight, Friday, Usha Ashram was alone at home when she was aroused by the two men who had gained entry into her house by using a ladder to climb through a window.
One of the men was carrying a handgun. He held Ashram at gunpoint and robbed her of her jewellery. He and his accomplice then made good their escape.
However, the police managed to apprehend one of them whom the victim positively identified.
The police did not say if any of the stolen items was recovered, but the suspect will be charged shortly.
