Durability of cars and the stamina of drivers will be tested today when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its three-hour Endurance Race, at the South Dakota Circuit.
A release from the club stated that 25 teams are expected to participate, in what is regarded as one of the most exciting events in local racing, with drivers from Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname pitting their skills against the locals.
Teams will comprise a maximum of three drivers with each taking control of the wheel for not more than one hour or less than 30 minutes until the end of the race.
The team that covers the most laps in the three-hour event will be declared the champions in their respective categories and they will be presented with trophies.
The following are the categories:
Group A: Vehicles with a capacity of up to 1600cc; Group B- vehicles with a capacity between 1601to 2000cc and Group C- the unlimited class above 2000cc.
At the 2008 event, the pair of Adrian Fernandes and Anand Ramchand driving the Trans Pacific/Ramchand’s Auto Body Toyota Corolla sped away with the overall victory completing 111 laps in the stipulated time.
Team Fullworks 2 led by Aaron Bethune with co-drivers Shawn Seejattan and Naresh driving a supercharged 4AGE Corolla won the unlimited class and placed second overall with 110 laps, while Shairaz and Shahab Roshandin, also of Team Fullworks captured first place in the 1600cc class and third overall after completing 107 laps.
The race commences at 12:00 hrs and is anticipated to be completed by 15:00 hrs
Spectators arriving after the start are asked to use the Airport entrance since the Soesdyke Highway access will be closed to vehicular traffic during the staging of the event.
Well stocked food and drinks bars will be provided and admission is free.
