Zamali Khan, a 20-year-old carpenter of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison despite pleading not guilty to robbery under arms and unlawful wounding.
Khan is accused of robbing Fazil Baksh of his car and a cell phone, both valued at some $2.6M on Sunday.
He told Acting Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson, that on the night in question, he was drinking and had hired the car to take him home. He said at the time someone else also entered the car.
He further stated that when he exited the car to urinate, the other individual committed act.
He is expected to make another court appearance on July 1.
The matter was also transferred to the Leonora Magistrates’ Court.
