As Western Union, Giftland Office Max lend support for boxing card
By Michael Benjamin
Even as Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes and Lennox ‘Pretty Boy’ Allen prepare for Saturday night’s battle for the super/middleweight title of Guyana, and as the administrators of the S&S Promotions Group continue to beseech the intervention of corporate Guyana to augment the card, three Water Street business entities have responded with varying sponsorship packages.
Yesterday morning at around 10:00hrs the management of Harris Paints, Giftland Office Max and Western Union and Bill Express all donated varying sums toward the success of the card.
The presentation ceremonies were held at the respective business places and each of the representatives endorsed the commitment of their respective organisation to the success of the card, and more so, the continued development of sports in Guyana.
Ms Geeta Sooklall made the presentation on behalf of Harris Paints. She endorsed her Company’s support for the card and urged the sporting public to emulate her company’s act. She also restated that the commitment demonstrated by her firm could have only been possible because of the support received from the public through the use of Harris Paints.
Mr. Ian Ramdeo presented on behalf of Giftland Office Max. He reminded that his firm has been in the forefront, rendering corporate assistance towards the development of sports. Indeed, Giftland Office Max was one of the chief contributors in the ‘Night of Champions’ boxing card, staged by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, some two years ago.
They have also been very visible in other national ventures that hinges on youth development through sports. “My firm regards such intervention as a corporate duty,” Ramdeo reiterated. He also views such chivalry as an act of reciprocation, since Giftland Office Max enjoys support from Guyanese of all walks of life.
Marketing Manager of Bill Express and Western Union, Natheeah King said that once again her company experiences great joy and satisfaction from such worthwhile gestures. She said that Grace Kennedy, through its brands, Western Union and Bill Express has had a long and fruitful relationship with the Guyana Boxing Board of Control. She acknowledged the challenges faced by promoters and boxers alike in their quest to promote, in the case of promoters, and acquire fights, in the case of the boxers.
“It can be a rocky road to achieving world recognition status and our local talents are in dire need the recognition,” King asserted. She further explained that it is against this backdrop and in keeping with the policies of her organisation that Western Union and Bill Express continues to support boxers in their quest to achieve their dreams.
“I would like to acknowledge the support of our loyal customers and to encourage new customers to support Western Union and Bill Express,” King concluded. She reiterated that it is this level of support that has made it possible to give back to the sporting public.
Meanwhile, Head of the S&S Promotions Stanford Solomon expressed gratitude to the three firms for their invaluable support. He said that even though he suffered extensive losses in the first two boxing cards promoted by his group, he was determined to press on since he is assured that his commitment can make a big difference in the lives of local pugilists.
The new promoter to the sport also wishes to acknowledge the corporate input of several other business enterprises as well as individuals including Boxers Dollars and Sense, Ganga Charransingh, George Gomes of Kalibur Security, George Humphrey of Humphrey’s Bakery, Hans Barrow of Insurance Brokers Guyana Ltd, Jermaine Langevine of the Fish Shop, Mortimer Mingo, Paul Giddings of Giddings Payday and Pawn Shop, Robert Ramcharran, Vic Odit, Vic Insanally of Guyenterprise, Royston Bacchus and Wieting and Richter Ltd.
The promotion group will be at the Ansa McAl offices, Betterverwagting, ECD for a similar presentation this morning.
