Dear Editor,
Reference to the article “Another frustrated Pensioner lashes out at the NIS” in the Monday edition of the Kaieteur News dated June 15, 2009, page 15.
National Insurance Scheme would like to offer the following explanation:-
1. Mr. Tirvengam Periasamie is in receipt of an Old Age Pension from the National Insurance Scheme.
2. His pension rate is above the minimum.
3. The National Insurance Scheme has a system of automatic review of pensions, once additional contributions are updated to a pensioner’s contribution records.
4. This matter was never brought to the attention of the Public Relations Unit.
5. The Public Relations Unit is now investigating Mr. Periasamie’s matter and would be more than happy to have him call this Unit to furnish us with additional details relative to his former employer.
The telephone numbers for the Public Relations Unit are 227-3461 and 227-6851.
