Dear Editor,
We have seen and heard repeated denials by Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy of any involvement in the purchase of spy equipment for Roger Khan. We have seen and heard of Dr. Ramsammy’s denials of any criminal involvement in the Roger Khan saga.
We have heard of calls for polygraph tests by Dr. Ramsammy and calls for his resignation.
The posturing of Dr. Ramsammy on this issue is most unconvincing.
Roger Khan and Robert Simels are not poor individuals. The allegations against Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, if untrue, constitute defamation of disproportionate dimensions as they imply that he was a player in the most odious criminal activity.
Individuals of character would seek to clear their names in the face of such allegations. Dr Ramsammy is not a poor man. Dr Ramsammy is also a US citizen who has ready access to the United States.
It is mind-boggling why Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has not sought from both Khan and Simels colossal damages in the New York Jurisdiction for what, if his denials were true, are defamatory publications in the public domain in New York.
The most adverse inferences are being drawn from his reluctance to challenge Khan and Simels in a New York Court. The most adverse inferences are being drawn for his apparent refusal to go into the US embassy here, which is US territory, and sign a sworn affidavit to support his innocence.
Until he takes steps such as these to clear his name, his denials will not only remain hollow, but more importantly continue to lack credibility. Defamation lawsuits attract damages when the character and reputation of individuals are impugned and the corollary is obvious. It is a remedy only available to individuals of character!
