Any hopes West Berbice had of reaching the semi-finals of the Tenelec Berbice first division 40-over cricket competition were washed away by torrential rain, which left the Canje ground waterlogged, resulting in them sharing the two points with Bermine in their final preliminary round game.
West Berbice, who finished with five points, faulted on Saturday, when they lost a rain affected game to Young Warriors, who just failed to reach the semi-finals from Zone B.
Rose Hall Canje booked their semi-final spot, when they beat Blairmont in another rain-hit encounter on Saturday to top their zone with nine points.
While both Police and Young Warriors finished with seven points each, the Cops edged ahead by virtue of beating Warriors in their head-to-head meeting.
The semi-finals are set for Saturday with Zone ‘A’ winners taking on Police in Rose Hall Town, while Rose Hall Canje battle Albion at the Canje ground.
In Saturday’s matches, home team Blairmont fell for 134 off 26.3 overs in a game reduced to 27 overs per side. Canje reached 135-9 with one ball to spare to win in pulsating fashion.
Karamdat Bissoondial top scored with 36 and got some support from Asif Khan (18) as Sean Jettoo took 4-27 from 5.3 overs, Sasenarine Sukhdeo had 2-22 from 5 and Romesh Munna had 2-25 from 6 overs.
Rocky Bipat (42), Sukhdeo (24) and Rafik Kassim (21*) helped Rose Hall Canje to victory. Bissoondial took 3-27 from 6 overs and Ramesh Boodram 2-22.
At Cumberland, an attractive 45 from former West Indies Under-19 batsman Richard Ramdeen then led the hosts to victory, while Farouk Hussain (34), Rudolph Baker 24) and Balram Samaroo (22) lent support. Dwayne Duke picked up 4-42 from 7 overs and Artley Bailey took 2-55 from 7 overs.
Bailey returned to score 34, and along with 26 from Keith Fraser, 24 from Ralph Ogle and 22 from Denis Webster failed to see their team home.
The versatile Hussain took 4-43 from 6 overs with his off-spin, while left-arm spinner Charran Singh returned the amazing figures of 3-3 from 5 overs to put the handcuffs on the Police batsmen.
