After a six-month consultation period, Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, has signed into effect, new speed limits for motor vehicles on the public roads.
Minister Rohee said that the implementation of these new speed limits is in accordance with the Second Schedule of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act speed limit for motor cars, hire cars, motor cycles and other vehicles.
The Minister said that the implementation of new speed limits was a response to calls made by several members of the public. Organizations such as the National Commission on Law and Order (NCLO), Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, National Road Safety Council, and the Police Traffic Department, participated in the consultation.
The Minister explained that the Police Force, with the use of radar guns, will be very vigilant in ensuring that drivers are in conformity with the new speed limits.
