– four other phones, ‘jukas’, cigarette lighters unearthed in prison raid
Police officials are said to be preparing further charges against one of the accused in the Lusignan massacre, after finding a mobile phone in his cell at the Georgetown Prisons.
The inmate is said to be in the solitary section of the prison and the mobile phone was one of five that were discovered on Wednesday during a search of the Camp Street jail.
Kaieteur News understands that the search team also unearthed 12 ‘jukas’ (makeshift knives), phone chargers, cigarette lighters and other prohibited items during the raid.
According to a police source, the inmate, described as a top ‘lieutenant’ of the now-dismantled Rondel ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins gang, is also one of six high-profile inmates who staged a botched jailbreak last December.
Dennis Williams, 23, called “Anaconda”, of 35 Waterloo Street; Paul Bagot, 28, of Cato Street Agricola, Dwayne Archibald, 32, of 450 Bulletwood Street, Linden and Jermaine Savory, 21, of 97 Second Street Agricola; Mark Royden Williams, also known as Royden Durant and ‘Smallie’; and Shawn Williams were all charged jointly for trying to escape from the capital section of the Camp Street Prison on December 28, 2008.
Some prison officers have alleged that a ring of corrupt prison ranks are involved in the smuggling of cell phones, narcotics and other prohibited items into the Camp Street prison.
