West Bank Berbice side, D’Edward beat Kennard Memorial by 7 wickets last Sunday to advance to the final of the NBS Berbice 50-overs 2nd division cricket competition.
D’Edward will play the winner of the second semi-final between Number 69 Vikings and Hopetown tomorrow. The final is scheduled for the Number 69 ground on Sunday.
After rain reduced the match to a 35-over per side affair, Kennard Memorial, invited to bat by the hosts in overcast conditions, were bundled out for 106 in 30.4 overs. D’Edward then responded with 107-3 in only 17.2 overs, with Romaine Boodram leading the way with 6 fours and 2 sixes in an attractive 46, before he was run out with victory 2 runs away.
Marcel France (1-13 from 6 overs) struck early in the game when he removed Mankarran Singh for a duck before Kennard Memorial had scored, while Eon Abel grabbed two wickets with the score on 7 as the visitors wobbled at 7-3.
All of the bowlers produced good spells, as Kennard Memorial were never allowed to gallop away to a good scoring rate, although Farouk Drepaul (who made an unbeaten 35) and Hemraj Mankarran (21) offered some resistance by taking the score from 62-6 to 87-7 before Navin Rampersaud (1-13 from 7 overs) got rid of Mankarran.
Abel then polished off the tail with his off-breaks to finish with 4-21, while Boodram and Derrick Lalsa also had a wicket each for D’Edward.
When the home team batted, Tuna Ramanan fell to Drepaul for 5 at 11-1 before Ryan Sutherland (12) was removed by Sunesh Mangru at 28-2.
However, any hopes Kennard Memorial harboured of pulling off a sensational win was dashed by solid batting from Boodram and Abel who contributed an unbeaten 22.
