Parika/Hydronie SC created an upset last Sunday, when they defeated the highly favoured Wolf Warriors XI by 4 wickets in the West Coast zone of the Trophy Stall 15-over countrywide round-hand cricket competition, organised by the Guyana Softball Cricket League.
Wolf Warriors XI batting first made 131-6 off their overs in wet conditions; (Asif Ahamad 71 (5×6; 3×4); Anil Jairam 14 (1×6); Leon Spears took 3-17 from his 3 overs).
Parika/Hydronie SC started in fine style, with anopening partnership of 98 off 7 overs between Leon Spears (47 (6×6) and Brian Hubert 44(5×6) that took the fight out of Wolf Warriors XI, who eventually went under by 4 wickets after finishing on 133 – 6 in 12 overs.
The best bowlers for Wolf Warriors were Anil Jairam with 2-9 from 3 overs and Timur Mohamed 2-13 from his 3 overs.
Parika/Hydronie will now join Rangers SC in the National quarter-finals to take on Berbice winners Scotsburg United and Fyrish Youths respectively, after Scotsburg United defeated Fyrish Youths by 3 wickets.
Fyrish Youths, batting first scored 81 all out in14.5 overs (Javed Sumair 20; Imran Sakoor 15; Darshan Challitar 3-15 from 3 overs) In reply Scotsburg United made 82-7 in 7 overs ( Darshan Challitar 23; Sherwin Murray 20;Hafeez Sakoor 1-4 from 1 over).
Meanwhile, in the Georgetown Zone Farm Masjid created another upset when they defeated the highly touted Trophy Stall XI by 7 wkts.
Trophy Stall XI batted first and scored 99 all out off 13.1 overs, with Panday Tiwari 28. Bowling for Farm Masjid, Imtiaz Mohamed took 3-19 from 3 overs. Farm Masjid replied with 101-3 in 14.1 overs, with Vivian Bissoon making 43. He got good support from Imtiaz Mohamed with 28. Dayanand Singh took 1-16 from 3 overs for Trophy Stall XI.
They will now take on Essequibo champion Die Hard XI. The winner of the Regal XI/Ariel XI clash to be played on Saturday June 20 will face Young Warriors.
