The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Three plans to expend some $217.7 million in its various communities.
At a recent press conference, Regional Three Chairman, Julius Faerber, disclosed that under the capital budget of the RDC, some $16 million will be spent on constructing bridges in Leguan, Good Intent and Wakenaam.
Additionally, $34.55M will be spent on educational institutions, as there would be an extension of a primary school at Canal Two, West Bank Demerara, while there will be the construction of the head teacher’s headquarters at Endeavour on the Demerara River and the erection of ramps to facilitate the children in riverrain areas such Western Hogg Island, Clenwood and La Harmonie.
The region would also be constructing some sanitary blocks for Endeavour Nursery, Marushie Primary and Maryville Primary schools.
It was also noted that some $22 million will be spent on constructing new health posts in Fort Island, Saxacalli and Upper Bonasika, while $12 million will be spent on extending the administrative building in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, along with an extension to the library at Leguan. The region is also in the process of rehabilitating the guest house in Wakenaam.
As it relates to agriculture development, a total of $39.42 million will be spent in the area of drainage and irrigation. It was noted at the press conference that there will be the construction of a koker in Northern Hogg Island, along with the construction of revetments in Tuschen, Middle Walk, Philadelphia sideline and in Leguan.
There would also be the construction of check panels in La Jalousie, along with a sluice door in Success, Leguan. Culverts and doors are expected to be constructed in Sisters Village. The region also plans to purchase drainage tubes in the various sizes.
Meanwhile, $41 million will be spent on rehabilitating roads in Vergenoegen, Wakenaam, Den Amstel and in Leguan, while some $20 million will be expended on land development in Sara Lodge, Façade Road Vergenoegen and New Housing Scheme Road, Goed Fortuin
Another $8 million will be spent on land and water transport. The region would be purchasing a mini excavator to assist in drainage and irrigation, while some $15 million was made available for the purchase of X-ray film processor, electro surgical scalpel, operating lights and filing cabinets for the health sector.
Some $2 million would be spent on a photocopier, a conference table and chairs for the administrative department of the region, while $7.7 million was made available for the purchase of desk and benches, tables and chairs, filing cabinets, chalk boards, cupboards, book racks, and fire extinguisher for a number of schools. The regional chairman said that thus far, a total of 93 per cent of these contracts have already been awarded. Thirty per cent of the work has been completed.
