A Linden woman is recovering in the Mackenzie Hospital, after almost being strangled by a jealous ex-lover, who allegedly tried to make good on his threats to kill the victim for leaving him.
The woman, who is also from the area, was reportedly attacked while heading home, just after midnight on Saturday.
She reportedly collapsed after being choked for several minutes and only survived because the man loosened his grip and fled after believing she was dead.
He is still at large.
Kaieteur News was told that the woman, who asked not to be named, had broken up with the suspect, known as ‘Dull’, some months ago.
But according to the woman’s relatives, the jilted man became incensed and repeatedly threatened to kill his ex-lover.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, the woman was going home in the company of two male friends when the ex-lover pounced out from a clump of bushes and attacked her.
Relatives alleged that the two male friends stood by while the suspect choked her until she collapsed.
Apparently thinking that she was dead, the assailant let go and fled.
The woman was taken by ambulance to the Mackenzie Hospita, where doctors had her admitted.
Reports indicate an upsurge in domestic violence, with several women being slain or maimed this year by their lovers or estranged spouses.
