Dear Editor,
If former national Captain and two times Caricom All Stars Guard Lugard Mohan is successful at the FIBA accredited Referees course in Colorado USA, the Ravens swing man will join Cecil Chin as the second national player to become a FIBA accredited Referee.
Chin was a member of the first national team that participated at the Central American Championship in Caracas, Venezuela in 1971. The former Guyana Defence Officer officiated at several Caricom Championships.
Lugard’s resume as a national player is extremely impressive.
The dominative Point Guard is the only Guyanese to score consecutively over 25 points in games at the Caricom Championship level. The feat was achieved at the (2000) Championship in Barbados, Mohan had 26 Points against the US Virgin Islands and returned the next night and scored the exact amount versus Belize, a performance that ensured the Land of Many Waters left Barbados with the third place trophy.
The Raven’s swingman is also the most successful national captain at international tournaments his 9 victories from 19 matches is second to none.
The former St. Stanislaus College student is also the Guyanese to aggregate over 100 Points twice at a Caricom Championship 1996 in Trinidad and 2000 in Barbados and when it comes to Guyanese with scores at over 20 Points at Caricom Championships, the former national captain tops the list with 7 games at 20 Points.
The records will show that the only time Guyana defeated the Bahamas and Jamaica at the Caricom Championship level, was under the stewardship of Lugard Mohan.Mohan made is international debut against Barbados at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall June of 1993.
