Several notable and competent individuals would deliver addresses on topics ranging from slavery, to the role and status of the Amerindians, to nationalist politics, when the Guyana Institute of Historical research convenes for its second annual conference on June 27.
The venue for the forum is the conference room of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), 56 Main and New Market Streets, Georgetown.
The forum would be held under the theme ‘In the name of development and capital mobilization: From Emancipation to universal /1838-2000.’
Presenters would include University of Guyana lecturer, Frederick ‘Freddie’ Kissoon, African Culturist, Tom Dalgetty; Presidential Advisor, Navin Chanderpal; Dr Bridget Ogunwewo, Dr Desrey Fox, Anthony Willis, Jean LaRose, GIHP Director, Hazel Woolford, University of Guyana lecturer, Dwayne Benjamin, Dr Mellissa Ifill, Cecelia McCalmont and Moneeta Singh-Bird.
GIHP Director, Hazel Woolford, will also make a presentation while former University of Guyana Lecturer, Aubrey Norton, would chair the proceedings as well as deliver a lecture.
Administrator of the Museum of African Heritage, Jennifer Daly, will declare the conference open.
The registration exercise, which entails a fee of $3000, closes on Tuesday. Late registrants would be required to pay an extra $2000.
