Cricket bat blow fractures PC first former’s skull

A first form student of President’s College sustained a fractured skull after another student struck him on the head with a cricket bat on Wednesday.
Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) have given 12-year-old Parmanand Singh, a 50/50 chance of full recovery, after examining X-ray and CT scan results.
Singh, of Airy Hall, Mahaicony, was rushed to the hospital shortly after 18:00 hours on Wednesday in an unconscious condition.
Teachers at the institution are tight-lipped about the incident.
Singh’s parents also declined to speak to this newspaper when they were approached at the GPHC yesterday while visiting their son.
However an eyewitness at President’s College told Kaieteur News that Singh and some of his classmates were involved in a game of cricket on the school’s basketball court.
The eyewitness said that Singh was the bowler and one of his colleagues, who was the batsman, became angry after he was bowled.

He immediately struck Singh in his head with the bat.
“After Parmanand fall down he (the batsman) run and hide the bat. Is a sixth form boy who pick up Parmanand and carry him to the nurse,” the eyewitness stated.
According to reports, although the incident took place at about 17:00 hours, no one contacted the Principal until about 19:00 hours.
When it was realised that the injured child was not regaining consciousness, a decision was then taken to rush him to the hospital where he was immediately admitted.
Singh’s parents were then contacted and they too rushed to the city hospital where they confirmed the unsettling news.
It is not yet clear what action has been taken against the attacker who is said to be a trouble maker.
