Action in the Guyana Softball League, Trophy Stall sponsored 15-over cricket competition continued over the weekend with several matches.
In the first match at Perseverance, El Dorado XI defeated Young Warriors by 34 runs.
El Dorado XI won the toss and elected to bat and scored 136-8 in their 15 overs, with Robin Persaud scoring an undefeated 28 (1×6; 2×4).
Bowling for Young Warriors, Parshutam Ragubansie took 3-20 from 3 overs.
When Young Warriors took to the crease they were on top as they raced to 50 off 9 overs before they self-destruct and ended on 102 all out in 12.5 overs, with Calvin Walcott 37 not out.
Robin Persaud returned with the ball to grab 4- 24 from his three overs to crown a good all round performance.
Die Hard XI thrashed United Brothers Sports Club by four wickets.
Die Hard won the toss and sent United Brothers SC to bat in wet conditions and made 139-9 in their 15 overs, with Sham Grovesnor top scoring with a disciplined 52, laced with 5 fours. Bowling for Die Hard XI, Raymond Taylor bowled economically in finishing with 3–20 from his three overs.
Die Hard XI made 140-6 in 12.5 overs in reply, with Patrick Rooplall scoring a blistering 65 not out off 29 balls, with 7 sixes and 3 fours and he was ably supported by Ganesh Mangal who made 40 not out off 21 balls, with 3×6 and 2×4. Ishwar Singh was the next best scorer with 20 (2×4). Bowling for United Brothers SC, Ehwaas Baskh took 3-25 from three overs.
Young Warriors have qualified to represent Essequibo by virtue of losing only one match and along with Die Hard XI, who were unbeaten in the Essequibo zone will now face the winners of the Georgetown zone.
In scheduled action in that zone, Regal XI, who are the present countrywide champions, take on unbeaten Ariel XI, while Trophy Stall XI, who are also unbeaten, challenge Farm Masjid this weekend after their fixtures last weekend were rained out.
Meanwhile, Wolf Warriors of West Coast will take on Parika/Hydronie Sports Club to see which other team will go through to face the Berbice winners. Rangers SC were the first team to make it through having defeated Zeeburg Warriors last week.
In Berbice, Scotsburg United will face Fyrish Youths in a playoff this weekend to determine the winner after both teams qualified to represent Berbice in the national quarter-finals.
