From all appearances the rush to obtain the new Machine Readable Passport (MRP) was just a façade as the Guyana Police Force reports that almost 800 of the prepared documents are still to be uplifted by persons who requested them.
The Central Immigration and Passport Office is reporting that 796 prepared new MRPs have not yet been uplifted by the applicants.
Some of these applications were made since July 2007, when the machine readable passport was launched.
The department is urging persons who have applied for, but have not yet collected their new machine readable passports, to do so at the Central Immigration and Passport Office. The documents can be uplifted on any working day between 13:00 and 16:00 hours.
