Dear Editor,
In December, 2008 I, like many other teachers graduated from the University of Guyana. To be a graduate at the top of my class in my area of study I was quite exuberated.
In the first week of January 2009, I submitted all the necessary documentation to the Personnel Department at the Ministry of Education, Brickdam, Georgetown (original copies) and a photocopy of same to the Teaching Service Commission. Six months later, I am still to receive a letter form the Teaching Service Commission reflecting my upgraded status.
Several telephone calls to the Personnel Department have not aided to hasten the process as on every occasion I am told that the file is still to be returned to the Personnel Department after being sent to the relevant authority to be signed.
It is quite disheartening to know that after all this time my status as well as that of other teachers is still to be upgraded.
A point to note is the last year; the Teaching Service Commission held a meeting encouraging teachers to treat upgrading of status among other things with urgency as this can affect a number of other processes.
I will be thankful if the person/persons responsible can provide a possible explanation to the teachers who would have been made to wait for this very long period of time as to why this process takes so much time.
