An irate Sharon Johnson, the wife of robbery accused Errol Johnson, who is on remand at the Georgetown prison for his alleged involvement in a 2008 robbery under arms charge, is vehemently protesting her husband’s innocence.
She is also contending that detectives at Parika are holding the wrong man.
Errol Johnson was arrested at his Westbury home and charged on February 1, 2008, for the offence of robbery under arms.
According to a police report Johnson, whilst armed with a gun robbed a Parika jeweler of a quantity of jewelry and a large sum of cash.
While proclaiming her husband’s innocence, Sharon said that she vividly recalled the day of the alleged robbery.
She said that she was accompanying her husband, her son-in-law, Hamilton Dekensie, and her daughter, Naomi, on a trip to Georgetown to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court in support of her brother Leno Marks, who is currently serving an 18- month sentence.
Marks is also currently on remand at the Georgetown prison for the murder of Ecliffe Stephens.
According to Mrs. Johnson, while at Parika, her son-in-law was insistent that they stop at one of the vendors where he purchased a new pair of sandals. She said she reminded him that they were already running late for her brother’s hearing.
Mrs. Johnson said as they continued on their Dekensie made another stop, this time, at the same jeweler.
While at the jeweler Hamilton enquired and showed interest in purchasing a gold ring. However, after his purchase he was subsequently arrested by ranks at the Parika outpost who was informed by the same jeweler, after he noticed a ring stolen from him on one of Hamilton’s finger.
Mrs. Johnson said after the jeweler summoned the investigating ranks both her husband and son- in-law were subsequently arrested and subjected to intense interrogation. According to Mrs. Johnson her husband, Errol Johnson, and her son-in-law, Hamilton, were detained and charged with robbery under arms. They made an appearance at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court the following day.
She said both Errol and her husband were denied bail in the magistrate court, but through an approach to High Court, both Johnson and Hamilton secured bail in the sum of $100,000.
She claimed her husband was absent when the matter was called a second time, and instead made his appearance on the following day. However, his bail was escheated.
She said Hamilton while on his pretrial liberty managed to elude the jurisdiction.
Sharon is contending that some of the jewelry stolen from the jeweler were found at one Hudo’s resident in Albouystown.
