Dear Editor,
The Linden Town Day which began in the year 1996 evolved to become Linden Town Week.
The Linden community and its environs supported the Bauxite Town’s activities for the past 13 years, where to this day the organisers of this event failed year after year to present a financial report to the residents of the community.
Sometime ago the then chairman for that year’s Town Day went on television and promised the people of Linden a financial report for that said year. After the Town Day activities ended, the Town Day head told residents that the proceeds from the Town Day were used to pay policemen for their services.
On Wednesday 6th May, 2009 there was a (call-in) programme by the Linden Town Council (IMC) Chairman concerning the 2009 Linden Town Week.
The Linden Citizens Committee (LCC) was disappointed with the response made by the (IMC) Chairman. It was expected that the Head of the Linden Town Council would have used the television media to present a financial report to the residents of Linden.
A telephone caller asked for a financial report and the (IMC) Chairman responded, saying that it was the Glow Party and the Pageant Contest, who made most of the money.
The caller did not ask who made most of the money. The (IMC) Chairman failed to answer the question.
The (IMC) Chairman went on to say that he had sent a financial report to the Ministry of Local Government, and would soon present one to the Linden Town Council.
The LCC supports the dispatching of a report to the Government Agency and the one intended for the Linden Town Council. However, the LCC must remind the (IMC) Chairman that his first obligation is to the residents of the Linden community and its environs.
Hence, we of the Linden Citizen Committee (LCC) are requesting the (IMC) Chairman of the Linden Town Council, to present a detailed Financial Report of the 2009 Linden Town Week event, to the Linden Community, where residents will be able to read such in the print media, and also be seen on television as soon as possible.
Maurice Noble
Chairman
