Rose Hall and St. Aloysius carted off the Boys and Girls titles in the Region 6 Zone of this year’s AL Sport & Tour Promotions/Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport Primary Schools Windball Cricket Championships, which ended recently, at the Welfare Centre Ground in East Canje, Berbice.
In the Boys final: Rose Hall beat Massiah by 8 runs.
Taking first strike, Rose Hall totalled 56-7 off the allotted 6 overs with Matthew Latcha 13 and Weston Harry 12, being the chief contributors. Davanand Chatterpaul took 2-18.
Massiah in their turn at the crease reached 48-9 when the overs expired. Brandon Persaud finished with figures of 3-13.
In semi-final play- Rose Hall defeated Eversham by 5 wickets.
Eversham made 34-8. M. Latcha grabbed 3 wickets, while Sunil Chatteram supported with 2.
Rose Hall in reply reached 35-5. Kenon Sampson picked up 3 wickets.
Massiah then beat St. Aloysius in a bowl-off after the initial result showed that the two schools posted similar totals, resulting in a tie.
St Aloysius made 50 and Massiah replied with 50.
In the playoff for third place- St. Aloysius cruised to a six-wicket win over Eversham.
Eversham compiled 46-4 with Akeem Campbell 18 and K Sampson 10. Neron Park 2-5.
St Aloysius replied with 48-4. Jamal Butts made 13. Anand Jaundoo 2-10.
In the Girls final: St. Aloysius narrowly scraped home against Rose Hall by 2 runs.
St Aloysius made 24-3 and then restricted Rose Hall to 22-4 when the overs came to an end.
In semi-final action-
St. Aloysius crushed No.43 by 10 wickets
No.43 totalled a measly 25-6 with only Melissa Adolph 10 reaching double figures. Dominique Caldeira had 3-5.
St Aloysius replied with 26-0, Caldeira 16 Hewana Ross 9.
Rose Hall scored a convincing 8-wicket victory over McGowan.
Mc Gowan 23-1, Kimmone Thomas 12.
Rose Hall 24-2.
In the third place playoff:
McGowan beat No.43 by 5 runs
Mc Gowan 26-6, Kimsha Durant 10. Rohie Rawana, M Adolph and Mohanie Dhuman each snared 2 wickets.
No. 43 was contained to 21-8. Kassika Munroe and Kimmola Davis each took 3 wickets.
The MVPs were (Girls) – Tamara Blucher of Overwinning and (Boys) – Godfrey Junior Blair of Mc Gowan.
