– Dr Leslie Ramsammy
Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, says that he is willing to undergo a polygraph to clear his name in the Roger Khan/Robert Simels issue should the Guyana Police Force request it.
Recently, the Alliance for Change (AFC) called for Dr. Ramsammy’s resignation or that he submit to a polygraph following reports emanating out of the United States of America by former Roger Khan Attorney, Robert Simels.
Simels is alleging that it was Dr Ramsammy who helped to facilitate the purchase of a laptop computer, capable of triangulating and intercepting telephone calls.
Simels also alleges in court records that Dr. Ramsammy assisted in facilitating the training of Khan in the use of the equipment.
At a press conference yesterday at his Brickdam office, Minister Ramsammy said that whenever allegations are made; persons must permit the relevant authorities to do their job.
He told members of the media that he would only undergo the test if the police request him to do so in order to facilitate an investigation.
Dr Ramsammy, during his press briefing yesterday, stressed, “I have never and I will never be uncooperative with persons who must do their job. I have never been involved in any criminal activity and if there are allegations in that respect then the police must do their job.
“If I am called upon to cooperate with any investigation, I will do so. I am at all times available to those who are responsible to investigate any criminal activity if they think I could be of any help and I can therefore look at you, I can look at them and I can look at the public and say to them that I have never been engaged in any activity that in anyway facilitate a criminal action in Guyana or in any other country,” Minister Ramsammy said.
The Health Minister said that there are Members of Parliament on both sides of the House who are making the allegations and there are those who are asking him to resign. They have had long standing allegations against them but to date he has not seen anyone of them resign or agree to do a polygraph.
Minister Ramsammy has since denied being familiar with the piece of equipment of which he is being accused of procuring.
“I am not now, nor was I ever familiar with technology intended to monitor telephone calls. I don’t know what such technology looks like. I’m not now, nor was I ever aware of where such technology could be procured. I don’t know now nor was I ever knowledgeable of anyone who knew anyone who could provide such technology.
“I have never spoken to anyone, as far as I know, who could provide such training to anyone in or out of Guyana. I have no knowledge of anyone who came to Guyana for such training. I could not therefore facilitate, on anyone’s behalf, training in the use of such technology,” the Health Minister said.
As it relates to the AFC’s call for him to resign, Dr. Ramsammy said that he serves Guyana as part of the President’s Cabinet at this time and he will resign whenever the President asks him to or whenever the President gives him the permission to resign.
