Could be someone storing oil illegally – Mayor Green
City Hall is yet again investigating the mysterious flow of fuel in the America Street drains. The flow was first spotted on Sunday.
Yesterday, City Mayor Hamilton Green said, “Obviously it is coming from a storage facility as checks have proven that it is processed diesel and not a natural eruption from the earth.”
He said, too, that “somebody could be storing some illegal fuel and we will endeavour to find out who it is.”
From about 7:00hrs on Sunday morning persons bearing buckets cans and pails, descended on America Street as word spread that black gold, Texas tea (diesel) was flowing in the drains.
The dipping lasted up until about 9:000hrs and while no one knew the origin of the fuel in the America Street drain they were more than happy to collect as much as they could.
When asked what it was that had them happily walking away with merry smiles, the general consensus was “Free Diesel.”
Some expressed suspicion that it was coming from KFC or a business close by but a staffer there begged to differ. He said, “When we heard of the fuel in the drains we checked our diesel tank and it was not coming from our tank.”
There was another such mysterious fuel flow in the drains last February and the origins of that remains a mystery.
