A young woman who walked out on her lover, was placed on $75,000 bail, after she was accused of stealing $310,000 from him.
The woman, Annett Henaro, 23 of Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Issacs-Marcus, at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to a charge of larceny from a dwelling house.
The woman was represented by attorney at law, Paul Fung-a-fat, who successfully argued for the bail to be reduced from the initial $100,000 imposed by the Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent, Edmond Cooper, did not object to bail.
It is alleged that Henaro stole the cash from Shafeek Yar, a gold miner, at his home at Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara on April 28 last.
According to the prosecution, Yar had met Henaro a year ago and they remained friends and contacted each other by telephone.
In April after returning from the interior, they met and Yar invited her to his home.
Yar claimed that he had secured a large amount of cash in a wardrobe in his bedroom.
The woman spent the night at the gold miner’s house, and they both left early the following morning.
However, upon his return home, the cash was missing.
He immediately suspected that Henaro had stolen it, since according to the police, no one else had access to his room. He also claimed that when he tried to contact Henaro on her cellular phone it was turned off.
Yar later made a report to the police and an investigation was launched, which subsequently led to Henaro being charged.
