South NA seal Fitzroy ‘Locks’ Pilgrim Memorial Inter-Ward title
South New Amsterdam trashed Central New Amsterdam 5-1 in the final of the Fitzroy ‘Locks’ Pilgrim Inter-Ward Memorial football tournament, played recently.

The competition which took placed at the All Saints Scot Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice, attracted four Wards, North, Central and South New Amsterdam, along with Savannah Park and Martin Luther Scheme combined.
Each Ward was required to play two matches and the two Wards with the highest points qualified for the final.
Results of the games are: – In game one South New Amsterdam beat North New Amsterdam 2-0 through a double off the boots of national selectee Adrian Adams.
In game two, Central lead by a Kelvin Joseph Triple and a Shurland Edwards double pounded out a 5-2 victory on the Savannah Park/Martin Luther Scheme Combination. Ryan Stewart netted a double for the combined team.
North New Amsterdam then whipped Savannah Park /Martin Luther Scheme combination 3-0 through goals by Alvin Reynolds, Phillip Carrington and Stephen De Florimonte.
In the final preliminary round game, Central and South New Amsterdam played to a 2-2l draw. The marksmen for Central were former national U-15 players, Hoffman Spencer and Shurland Edwards, while national selectee Adrian Adams responded with a double for South.
The final played between the same two teams, attracted a large and vocal crowd. South took full advantage of their earlier win by trashing their opponents 5-1, through goals from Horace Roach, Shawn Sowers, Adrian Adams, Leonardo Adams and a defence error, while Central also benefited from a defence error.
In the presentation ceremony that followed, South New Amsterdam, made up of players from the Stanleytown area, took away the Fitzroy ‘Locks’ Pilgrim Memorial Trophy with Central New Amsterdam receiving the runners-up version.
Players from South New Amsterdam also made a clean sweep of all the individual prizes on offer. National selectee Adrian Adams with five goals took the Best Striker prize. Best Goalkeeper was Ramesh Maniram, Best Defender Javed Rajgopaul, Best Midfielder Leonardo Adams and Most Promising player Kevin Kirton.
The tournament was organised by Pilgrim’s family. They also assisted with the prize giving ceremony.
Former national player Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and former Berbice ball weaver Nigel ‘Bus It’ Felix were the coordinators.
