– celebrates 17th anniversary
Chandra Narine Sharma (CNS) TV, yesterday said it is ready to expand it’s service once permission is granted by the relevant authorities.
CNS TV owner CN Sharma talks with President Bharrat Jagdeo at a State House brunch, January 4, 2009.
“It has been many years now since we seek to extend our signal throughout the country, but we still await approval from the relevant authority. “Our success must be applauded, as we continue to work under pressure from external forces. We are ready to extend our reach as soon as permission is granted,” Sharma and his wife Savitree, said in a statement.
The television station is celebrating its 17th anniversary, and yesterday CNS Channel Six thanked its valued customers, friends and well wishers, “who have supported us in both pleasant and difficult times over the past years.”
Sharma’s Channel 6 became the pioneer in local and cultural programming, Indian Movies and Death Announcements, among many other entertainment and educational programmes when it started broadcasting.
“Being the people’s station, we have endured many challenges, including closures and withstood many conflicts for the poorer class of people in Guyana, who were given the opportunity to be heard through the Voice of the People Programme,” Sharma stated.
The TV station noted that it has also provided airtime to various religious organisations as well as the government, the opposition party and other political parties at no cost.
“We will continue to support all Guyanese here and beyond our shores, regardless of race and religion, that are responsible for our great achievements and to further improve on our services for better standards and quality,” CNS said.
