Latchman (5-23 & 80*) standouts for No 73 Y/Warriors
The New Building Society Challenge Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition continued in Berbice over last weekend with Hopetown, No. 69 Vikings and De Edward winning their playoff matches to book quarter-final places.
Adelphi gained a walkover from Ebini Ranch Raiders of the Berbice River to also advance to the quarter-finals.
Lakeram Latchman enjoyed a good all-round performance for No. 73 Young Warriors. The medium pacer took 5-23 to help bowl out No. 70 MYO for 152, despite 62 not out from Omar Ghanie. Latchman returned with the bat to hit a fluent 80 – his fourth half-century of the competition, to steer Warriors to a 7-wicket victory.
Other players scoring half centuries were Imran Alli of Fyrish, Chandradat Kumar and Thakurdeen Tikaram of No. 64 Fighting Marines and Dooshant Ramesh and Talat Khan of No. 58 Swing Star.
After Gibraltar/Courtland fell for 164, Delon Wayne scored an unbeaten 57 in Hopetown’s tense 3-wicket win.
Yograj Bhagwandat’s 53 guided No. 69 Vikings to 169 against Tain whose off-spinner Lakeram Mooklall took 5-24. However, Vikings spinner Naresh Prashad grabbed 5-24 to help bowl out Tain for 134.
De Edward had a relatively easy 6-wicket win against Rose Hall Town Bakewell.

Tain 134 in 36.4 overs, with Rudrunauth Lauckman 42. Naresh Prashad claimed 5 for 24. Hopetown beat Gibraltar/Courtland by 3 wickets. Gibraltar/Courtland 164 in 36 overs, with Dwain Crandon 41, Michael Cummings 35, Kenje Sedoc 4 for 15, Kelwin Bennett 3 for 21. Hopetown 168 for 7 in31.3 overs with Delon Wayne 57 not out, Kenje Sedoc 29, Ruel Edwards 29, Troy Mathieson 3 for 22, Michael Cummings 2 for 37.
