Tristen Massina, Andrew Wong and Orin DeFreitas hit half centuries, as the Guyana Beverage Busta 40-over cricket competition continued recently in Bartica.
DeFreitas, an Essequibo U-19 player, made 66 not out as his team Hampshire CC defeated Orient CC by 5 wickets, at the Bartica Secondary School Ground. Jerome Basdeo supported DeFreitas with an unbeaten 20 as their team overhauled the target of 120 for the loss of 5 wickets, after being precariously placed at 32 for 5 at one stage.
Curtis James took 3-13 for Orient who had earlier scored 119 all out in 31 overs. Extras top scored with a healthy 57, while James and Raymond Jabar made 20 and 15 respectively.
Basdeo crowned a good game by taking 4-11 off 6 overs and Quincy Jacobs supported with 2-19 for Hampshire who won the game with 18 overs to spare.
After 32 overs, Rising Star were 239-6 with Andrew Wong 68 not out, Divayne Singh 22 and Kenzo Baksh 20 leading the way when the game was halted.
They were playing against New Uprising at the Bartica Secondary School Ground.
Meanwhile, in earlier matches played, New Uprising CC overcame Over-40 CC by 5 wickets and Bartica Cavaliers CC got the better of Orient by 9 runs.
Scores: At B.S.S ground – Over-40 CC 105 all out in 26 overs (Quincy Jones 27, A. DeFreitas 18, Mark Smith 2-30; Brenty Crawford 4-7) lost to Uprising CC 108-5 in 19 overs. (G. Rodrigues 45, Mark Smith 26).
At B.S.S ground, Bartica Cavaliers CC 172-9 after the game was reduced to 20 overs due to rain. (Tristen Massina 70 not out, Shastri Mangal 18, Alvin Ramdial 3-30, Raphael Algeer 2-40) beat Orient CC, 163 all out in 20 overs (Eon Prindas 31, Triston Massina 5-22, Rayan Federicks 3-12, Eon Ferrier 2-19).
New Uprising have already qualified for the final after topping group B with 8 points.
They are awaiting the winner from group A, which will be decided when Bartica Cavaliers play Hampshire.
In another match, favourites Rising Star were disqualified after fielding players whose names were not on the list submitted to the umpires before the toss.
