As Parbo Bier Cup campaign ends
The ‘Golden Jaguars’, in rebuilding mode, lost all three of their matches contested at the 2009 Parbo Bier Cup Championship hosted by Suriname.
Their final game against French Guiana saw a much improved performance from the young side which lost 2-3 to French Guiana, who recorded their third win in as many matches to walk away with the championship. The French also recorded victories over hosts Suriname and Antigua & Barbuda.
The French team took the lead against the Guyanese in the 21st minute, but that advantage was cancelled out by a Warren Gilkes strike, five minutes later as the first half ended with the scores unchanged.
French Guiana cantered into the lead again eight minutes into the final period and again the young Jaguars drew level, this time, striker Peter Parks performing the honours in the 64th minute.
And while the performance of the lads from the Land of Many Waters was much improved when compared with their other matches against Antigua & Barbuda and Suriname, they just could not find the decisive goal against the new champions, who wrapped up the win in the 72nd minute
Manager Lawrence Griffith disclosed that young goalkeeper Richie Richards had an excellent game and with more experience will serve Guyana well. The players are expected back home today.
