Police investigators have now detained a fourth man for the murder of Corentyne businessman, Fazal Hoosein.
A police spokesman, said that the men are all Guyanese who reside on the Corentyne, and indicated that investigators have made some progress.
Reports indicate that Hoosein, who traveled regularly to Suriname to sell gold for Guyanese businessmen, was murdered by persons who were aware that he had conducted one of his transactions.
Sources close to the victim, said that he had several million dollars when the gunmen abducted him.
An autopsy revealed that Hoosein succumbed from drowning. This indicates that the kidnappers tied him up and tossed him overboard while he was still alive.
The pathologist was unable to say whether he was beaten, since the decomposed state of the body made it difficult to discern any marks of violence.
Hoosein and nine other passengers, were returning from Suriname at around 17:45 hrs on Wednesday, when five masked gunmen overpowered them.
The men then forced the businessman to accompany them, after relieving the other passengers of their mobile phones.
Hoosein’s body, bound hand and foot, was found the following day about four miles east of the Number 78 foreshore, which is also a short distance from the Suriname coastline.
