Mike’s Pharmacy is the new sponsor of the Guyana Softball League’s (GSL) country-wide 15over Softball tournament.
The competition is scheduled to begin next Sunday in 14 zones around the country and according to the GSL the tournament will be divided into four categories with $530,000 being pumped into the tournament.
Apart from the Open Division, females will battle for the Well Woman Trophy, the Over-40s would contest for the Well Man Trophy and the Under-15s compete for the Kiddy Care Trophy.
Fourteen trophies and cash incentives will be up for grabs from the quarter-final stage of the Open division.
In the female category, three trophies are at stake in addition to cash incentives, while in the Over-40 stage three trophies and cash are available.
In the Under-15 level three trophies in addition to cash can be won. Wickets, bats and balls will also be given to the Under-15 teams, while the finalists would be outfitted with jerseys.
The organisers are hoping that this tournament brings out the fans and feel the competition will go a long way in providing the opportunity for the participants to be meaningfully occupied. This they said should assist in removing some of the negatives in society and allow people to become team players, who could contribute to their various communities. The 14 zones are:-BERBICE – Orealla; Siperuta; Upper and Lower Corentyne; New Amsterdam/Canje.
ESSEQUIBO- North and south; Wakenaam; Bartica; Leguan
DEMERARA- Upper and Lower East Coast; Georgetown; East Bank; West Bank; West Coast; Linden.
