…company mum
As the debacle continues within the Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO), 12 employees were yesterday issued with termination letters by Chief Executive Officer of CLICO, Geeta Singh-Knight.
Kaieteur News understands that the employees that were fired were stationed in the Accounts, Customer Services and Pension Departments of the insurance company.
The reason for the termination of services was not clear, but it followed closely on recent newspaper reports which exposed the salaries of two senior staffers—Ms Gita Singh-Knight and Finance Director Sharon Melville.
As the fired employees left the CLICO building on Camp Street yesterday, they refused to speak to members of the media. None would offer a reason for their sacking.
In early March, approximately 30 employees of CLICO (Guyana) were issued with letters terminating their service, while the company’s Lamaha Street and Irving Street branches were closed down as the troubled insurance company faced its financial predicament.
Those who lost their jobs included the entire staff of the Marketing Department as well as several members from the Financial and Underwriting Departments, as well as cleaners and receptionists.
During that time, word circulated that staffers would be sent packing. That became a reality when the sacking started at the Head Office on Camp Street where the employees were called in one by one and given letters confirming that their services was no longer required.
