JC Chandisingh Secondary School of Rose Hall Town and Berbice High School of New Amsterdam reached the final of the RHTYSC/Kool Kids Inter Secondary School 20/20 cricket tournament, after defeating Tutorial Memorial High and Port Mourant Secondary respectively in the semi-finals.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground in front of a large and noisy crowd, Berbice High defeated home team Port Mourant Secondary by five wickets after being in trouble at 55 for 5, chasing 108 for victory.
Batting 1st after winning the toss, Port Mourant reached 107 for 5 off their allotted 20 overs, with Collis Cort scoring 36 (3×4), Jamal Butcher 20 and Gudakesh Motie 25 not out.
Bowling for Berbice High, Credwin Cort took 2 for 7 off 3 overs, while Udesh Imrit and Kevon Jawahir took one a piece.
In reply Berbice High reached 110 for 5 mainly due to a 6th wicket unbeaten partnership of 50 between Credwin Cort and Udesh Imrit, who came together with their team in trouble at 60 for 5 in the 10th over. Cort ended on 29 not out with 2 fours and a 6 while Imrit was 27 not out (3×4, 1×6).
Earlier Shemron Hetmeyer scored and attractive 25 with 4 boundaries. Bowling for Port Mourant, Clifton Wong and Jamal Brusche claimed one wicket each, while Sharaf Ramcharran took 2 for 17.
At the Port Mourant Ground JC Chandisingh crushed Tagore Memorial High by 8 wickets. Batting 1st Tagore struggled to 53 all out in 14 overs, with only number 9 batsman Devindra Budhoo (11) reaching double figures with (2×4), while extras contributed 13. Bowling for JC Chandisingh, Jonathan Ramkission took 2 for 15, Kandasammy Surjnarine 2 for 6 and Berbice Under-15 off spinner Lloyd Lewis 2 for 11.
In reply JC Chandisingh lost Ryan Tilak LBW to Naeem Yacoob for 0 at 3 for 1 in the 2nd over. Kandasammy Surjnarine and Karamchan Mahaballi took the score to 20 before Mahaballi was bowled by Shawn Tamesh for 6.
Skipper Merron Williams joined Surjnarine and together took their team to victory in the 10th over with Surjnarine undefeated on 25 and Williams 12 not out. Bowling for Tagore Memorial Yacoob took 1 for 11 off 3 over and Tamesh 1 for 12.
JC Chandisingh and Berbice High will clash in the final on Friday at the Area ‘H’ Ground starting from 1:00pm. The match would be broadcast live on NCN Radio.
