The drawing of fixtures for the 2009 Guyana Softball and Windball Cricket Association (GS&WCA) sponsored countrywide 15/15 Tapeball cricket competition will take place on Saturday evening at the Association’s Pavilion on Carifesta Avenue starting at 18:00 hours.
Tournament coordinator Rodnew McDonald disclosed that there has been an overwhelming response, with teams from as far as Berbice already registered for the event, which starts in two weeks’ time.
Close to 40 teams from Georgetown, East Bank and East Coast Demerara, West Demerara and Berbice have registered and the closing date for registration will be Friday with McDonald at telephone number 670-8872.
Among the teams listed to compete are Dyna’s Bravado, Ocean Xl, Warriors, Outlaws, John Fernandes, Neal and Massy, Strikers, Bee Hive, Falcons, Sterling Products, Good Fortune Stars, Young Strikers, Kingston, Georgetown Hospital and Mocha.
Attractive cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams, while other prizes will be up for grabs for outstanding individual performances.
According to McDonald, a small entrance fee will be charged as efforts are being streamlined by the GS&WCA to return Softball and Tapeball cricket to its former glory locally.
All matches will be played at the Association ground on Carifesta Avenue on Saturdays, Sundays and appropriate public holidays.
