Fire of an undisclosed origin erupted within an engine room at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, around noon yesterday causing panic among some staffers.
Reports are that quick action by staffers helped to avert what could have been a major disaster. The flames were already quenched by the time this newspaper arrived on the scene but several officials along with police officers were still on the scene contemplating the next move.
They were all unwilling to allow the presence of the media in the area where the fire was, regarding the area as a restricted one.
However, this newspaper understands that the fire did not cause any significant damage.
