Dear Editor,
The behaviours of the politicians to Barbados’ immigration policy as a sovereign nation are seeing attitudes never seen before.
In SN (May 30, 2009), the Alliance for Change (AFC) in a Motion to the National Assembly is “call[ing] on all sister CARICOM governments and in particular Barbados, “to ensure due process and protection under the Constitution and laws of Barbados” as well as the “letter and spirit of community instruments” is extended to Guyanese resident or travelling in those territories. The motion also urges the government to seek clarification from Barbados and the other states as to “the well-being, welfare, legal protection, due process and preservation” of the human rights and dignities of Guyanese nationals.”
The AFC forget they are supposed to be protecting Guyanese who stay at home. All the law breaking, indignity and human rights violations happening in Guyana the AFC never took a Motion to the National Assembly asking President Jagdeo to better our lives. There are plenty Guyanese at home who have never broken any laws. How can the AFC ignore them and ask CARICOM governments to protect those who have broken their laws. The behaviour suggested to those living in Guyana their “well-being, welfare, legal protection, due process and preservation of the human rights and dignities” do not matter.
Charity begins at home. Home is Guyana. People suffered through Lusignan, Bartica and Lindo Creek killings, fear of loosing jobs with EU taking away the sugar money and much much more, but have not left to go anywhere and live illegally. These people should be rewarded.
