Beaten woman succumbs, husband to be charged

A North Vryheid’s Lust man who was charged with the attempted murder of his reputed wife is now to be charged with killing his spouse.

George Gulliver, said to be in his 60s, was remanded to prison after his reputed wife, 45-year-old Bibi Ali, of Lot 9 North Vryheid’s Lust, ended up in hospital on Saturday after suffering a severe beating that left her partially paralysed.

Ali succumbed on Monday.

Gulliver is at present on remand for attempted murder.

According to reports, Ali was brought to the hospital by a male associate, who had initially informed hospital officials that she had fallen from the couple’s bed.

However, the woman reportedly told doctors she and the suspect had an argument on Saturday night around 19:00hrs.

The woman said that during the argument, she was struck on the neck with a piece of wood.
