All Saints Primary school made full use of home advantage to play unbeaten and come out winners in the Under-12 competition, when the third edition of the Annual Godfrey ‘Half Man’ Eleazar Memorial Football competition, concluded recently in the Ancient County.
The event this year was played among primary schools in the New Amsterdam area and was held at the All Saints Scots Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
The competition was played on a round robin basis. Four schools participated, namely, St Aloysius Primary, All Saints Primary, New Amsterdam Primary and St Therese Primary.
Results are: – All Saints defeated St Therese 1-0 through a Ray Hinds strike. St Aloysius and New Amsterdam Primaries played to a nil all draw. St Therese edged out St Aloysius1-0, thanks to an Anthony Amsterdam goal. All Saint’s Primary returned to needle New Amsterdam Primary with Raheem Damond being the marksman.
New Amsterdam Primary through Michael Thompson and Theresa Primary through Anthony Amsterdam played to a one all draw. All Saints returned to edge St Aloysius by a Ray Hinds goal.
In the presentation ceremony that followed, All Saint with three wins were declared the winners ahead of St Therese, who finished second with one win and a draw. Third were New Amsterdam Primary with two draws.
In the individual category All Saints players took home most of the prizes with Clifton Lindie voted the best goalkeeper, Ryan Srikissoon the best defender, while Ray Hinds, who also scored two goals, was chosen the best midfielder on show. Anthony Amsterdam of St Therese Primary, who also scored two goals, was adjudged, best striker.
Miss Olive Dey a relative of ‘Half Man’ sponsored the competition and assisted with handing out the prizes. She also promised to continue with the sponsorship. Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey was the coordinator.
