Sherwin Trotman was yesterday remanded to prison, after making a court appearance before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
It was alleged that Trotman, on April 23, being armed with a gun, robbed Rotsdale Sutton, of a gold band and ring valuing $140,000. He was not required to plead.
Police Prosecutor Robert Clement, objected to bail and asked that the accused be remanded to prison.
Bail was refused, and the accused is expected to make another court appearance on August 4. Trotman also appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson, to answer a charge of attempting to commit murder.
It was further alleged that on April 23, he attempted to murder Emmett Sauers. Again he was not required to plead. He was unrepresented when he made both court appearances, and was remanded to prison.
He is expected to make another court appearance on August 4. Seventeen-year-old Emmett Sauers, who is a taxi service dispatcher, was shot in the neck by gun-toting bandits during that robbery April last.
Sauers, after being shot, was unable to speak or ingest any heavy foods, since the bullet was lodged in his neck.
According to reports, Sauers was leaning over talking to Sutton, when the bandits pounced on them. Sauers was ordered to hand over his valuables, but he turned and asked if it was “just like that”.
This probably angered the bandits who whipped out a gun and shot Sauers in his neck. Kaieteur News understands that the dispatcher is on the mend and was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital recently.
