Four ranks from the police narcotics branch, were transferred with immediate effect, after results showed that they failed their polygraph tests. The transfers took effect as of yesterday.
The ranks- an Inspector, a Secretary, a Dog Handler and a Corporal, who were stationed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, were all reverted to uniforms and sent to various police departments.
The tests were conducted in February, and the results were made known to the ranks last Friday.
Kaieteur News understands that the Inspector had only been sent to the narcotics department, a few days prior to the test.
The police narcotics branch is the second local drug enforcement agency to undergo the test, following a similar exercise for ranks at the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU).
Several CANU ranks were dismissed after they failed the test.
According to a source, there were many objections to questions asked during the tests.
The source said that only five of the questions had relevance to their work, while several others were frivolous.
The ranks were reportedly questioned on their political affiliations, among other questions that were not work- related.
At least one of the persons from the Police Narcotics Branch who failed the test, had no operational involvement in drug enforcement, and many ranks who are still in the unit are not satisfied that the test was properly administered.
President Bharrat Jagdeo, had stated that staff members of several enforcement agencies, will have to undergo polygraphs to ensure the integrity of their organizations.
Police Commissioner, Henry Greene, had welcomed the idea of polygraph testing for ranks of selected units of the force.
It is not yet clear when another test will be conducted, but there are assurances that similar exercises will occur randomly.
